Five Minutes is All is Takes…

Just a simple tweet from someone who noticed I had been quiet yet it made such a big difference to me.

It is always nice to know people care about you, even more so when the depression is kicking your ass and you feel alone.

People who have never had depression can’t understand how hard it can be for people to contact others when we are in the midst of a down cycle. We feel like we are disturbing people you don’t want to hear our problems.

So it is always welcome when someone takes the time to reach out to you, even more so when they have noticed that your not around as much as usual.

I can hold my head up and say I DO contact people when I notice an absence or even a change in moods, how about you?

Are you one for contacting others or do you feel like you would be stepping into a minefield?

Five minutes of your time can mean so much to someone, and if we cannot spare five minutes for someone then it’s a terrible world we live in!

  1. I withdraw like crazy the more depressed I am. And you outlined my thought process well- I don’t want to bother people with my problems. Especially because I’ve gotten “punished” in the past for sharing anything emotional or mental related.

    I’d rather just sit in my room and pretend there is no outside world.
    …like now. Ha. Obviously I’ve been pretty quiet in our blogging community lately too.

    Thanks for sharing this though. It makes me feel a bit better too, to know I’m not the only one who turns into an ostrich.

  2. I am like you in that when I am down nad depressed, I don’t want to let people see me like that and I withdraw more than I do anyway. I can relate to having the notion that no one really want’s t ohear me talk about my problems. Actually, I fee that ways most of the time whether I am depressed or not. lol I hope that you feel better soon.

  3. I have a couple of very close friends who suffer with depression. I do try to reach out to them rather often. Neither of them has a strong online presence, so it’s not like I can notice any change in it, which makes me want to contact them even MORE just to make sure things are okay with them. That is very sweet of your friend to tweet like that, it’s great to see what a difference that can make!

    I am not very good at making ‘real life’ friends, I am afraid of people, that they wont like me, that they will think I’m ugly, stupid, a waster… I have found that online, through twitter, where I am less afraid to be myself, I am starting to make friends. Those connections are invaluable to me.
